‘Secret Life of Pets’ Super Bowl Commercial Unchains Headbanging Dogs
After introducing fans to the villainous Gru in Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, and his sidekicks in the blockbuster spinoff Minions, animation company Illumination Entertainment is taking a more domestic approach with their next project,
The Secret Life of Pets. We got our first look at this project with the trailer that debuted way back in July, but now that we're getting closer and closer to the July 8 release date, Illumination debuted yet another trailer during the back half of Super Bowl 50. This trailer helps expose what your beloved pets may be up to after you leave the house for the day, and their actions may surprise you.
This animated family comedy represents the fifth fully animated movie collaboration between Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures. The Secret Life of Pets, a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. The comedy superstars you love, Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart, make their animated feature film debuts in The Secret Life of Pets.
They are joined by co-stars Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks. Illumination founder and CEO Christopher Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy produce the film directed by Chris Renaud, co-directed by Yarrow Cheney and written by Brian Lynch and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio. The Secret Life of Pets pulls the curtain back on one of animal kind's greatest mysteries. Will you be surprised? You may want to set up a spy camera for your pet the next time you leave the house.
The Secret Life of Pets will go up against the Universal Pictures comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates when it hits theaters nationwide on July 8. While it doesn't have much direct competition, this animated comedy is sandwiched between a number of high-profile projects. Opening one week earlier on July 1 is The BFG, The Legend of Tarzan and The Purge 3, while Ghostbusters, La La Land and The Lake open on July 15.
This comedy could very well be the latest in a long line of hit movies from Illumination, but given its stiff competition, it certainly may not fare as well as hits like Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 and Minions. Do you think The Secret Life of Pets could strike box office gold this summer? Let us know what you think after checking out the new Super Bowl 50 ad
